What kinds of things are gecko food? Geckos are predatory animals. This means that a lot of a geckos day is spent hunting for food.

Geckos eat insects mainly due to their abundance. They like to eat crickets mostly but will generally eat anything they can catch. It is very important to ensure the crickets are not too big for your pet to handle, never feed a gecko a cricket that is larger than its head in size.

There are around 750 species of these fine lizards, that are broken into 4 sub categories, Eublepharinae, Sphaerodactylinae, Diplodactylinae and lastly Gekkoninae.

How they live in the wild:

A Wild geckos life is full of the usual danger. For example day geckos have many predators, that include snakes, birds and other larger lizards. Most of a geckos time is spent hunting for food. Males are usually trying to keep hold of a territory and often need to fight other geckos off which can lead to life threatening injury. They have delicate skin and can easily end up with a bite or tear.

Once the decision to keep a gecko has been made, getting basic information about how to house and care for it is essential to make sure it is a good experience for the gecko and its keeper.

Dusting the insects a great way to deliver important vitamins and minerals to a gecko. Insects and the dusting powder can be put together in a plastic bag or tin can, and shaken gently to coat the insects.

Depending on your idea owning and keeping a pet, lizards in general are very interesting animals. Little dinosaur packages you might say. They are usually easy to keep and can adapt and live very long lives, some geckos live to be over 20 years old
